Hacker group LulzSec, the same group that has attacked Sony and Nintendo in the past, has tweeted that it's committed three distributed denial of service attacks on gaming companies , shutting down EVE Online's Tranquility server as well as Minecraft's multiplayer features, and the Escapist Magazine's website. EVE Online's CCP confirmed the outage and attack. The Escapist is not accessible at the moment. Minecraft creator Notch said that the service was restored however, it was not operational. LulzSec hasn't shared a reason for the attacks yet, but we can only guess that it's say, "for teh lulz." Update: Riot Games' League of Legends servers were also targeted by the group. The login screen for the game shows a message that indicates the server is in operation. However, the company has not yet confirmed this information. Update: CCP has issued a statement regarding the break. EVE Online seems to still be down. At 17:00 GMT today, CCP became aware of a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS) attack on the EVE Online cluster and web servers. Immediately, these services were taken offline. All infrastructure of CCP was also disconnected from the public Internet as a precautionary measure. CCP Security is currently conducting an investigation to discover the exact cause and how it happened and what consequences could be.
