Minecraft is such a popular cultural phenomenon that it was planned to have its own convention of three days in September with interactive exhibits, co-op and competitive gameplay, live entertainment, panels and merchandise. Tickets for the first ever Minecraft Festival in Orlando will go on sale this week. Minecraft servers ReedPop -- which also organizes New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con - announced that the convention was delayed by a whole year due to the coronavirus epidemic. Although the event was still months away and the outbreak is likely to be resolved by then the partners, producers, and exhibitors have run into issues when it comes to planning the fest and ensuring that attendees have a good time. Minecraft Live will continue to be available to players. The live stream will continue as planned and will highlight the latest Minecraft news, features and behind-the-scenes looks at the upcoming projects. This announcement is no surprise given the number of events and conventions which have been cancelled or postponed because of coronavirus-related concerns. It is strange that ReedPop and Mojang Minecraft, the developers of Minecraft, announced the convention just one week ago, at a time when the COVID-19 virus was widely known. To their credit, however, it was a good decision to cancel the event before tickets went on sale and people made travel arrangements. A lot of headaches could have been avoided by taking preventive action.
